Endah N Rhesa is an Indonesian independent music duo formed by husband-and-wife Endah Widiastuti and Rhesa Aditya in 2004. With Endah on vocals and acoustic guitar and Rhesa on bass, the duo has developed a distinctive sound rooted in folk, jazz, blues, rock & roll, and balladry. Their breakthrough came with Nowhere To Go (2009), an independently produced album that reached a wider audience through grassroots and digital distribution. The album earned an AMI Award for Best Alternative Album Production and was followed by Rolling Stone Indonesia’s Rookie of the Year recognition. Their subsequent albums—Look What We’ve Found (2010), Escape (2013), Seluas Harapan (2015), and Regenerate (2019)—showcase an evolving musical language while retaining the intimacy and storytelling at the heart of their work. Look What We’ve Found was also selected among Rolling Stone Indonesia’s 20 best albums.
Across their career, Endah N Rhesa have received multiple Anugerah Musik Indonesia (AMI) Awards, including for “Monkey Song,” the album Escape, “Ruang Bahagia,” and “Menua Bersama.” Their music has also taken them to international stages and festivals in Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, France, Kazakhstan, and the United States, including Music Matters, MIDEM, Darwin Festival, and the NAMM Show.
Beyond recording and performing, Endah N Rhesa have built a creative ecosystem around their music. They founded Earhouse in South Tangerang, a space for live performances, workshops, and independent creative exchange, and later established Earspace Studio, supporting both emerging and established Indonesian artists. They also continue to nurture songwriting and musical communities through their creative activities.
Their interests extend into environmental and community movements, where they have participated in initiatives that bring music into conversations around the environment and the way communities interact with their surroundings. Rather than treating these issues as a separate campaign, Endah N Rhesa approach them through the same community-based spirit that has shaped their independent music practice.
More than twenty years into their journey, Endah N Rhesa continue to write, perform, collaborate, and create spaces for music and community—maintaining an independent approach while reaching audiences well beyond Indonesia.
